Why is it innovative?
Students and institutions alike can focus their search for global learning opportunities and talent in the same way that job sites help job seekers and employers connect.
More Information
From the Global Campus website:
Mission
GlobalCampus is a social enterprise bringing opportunities for higher education and further development to talented young people around the world.
A social enterprise is a vehicle for social change, a social mission driven organization which applies market-based strategies to achieve a social purpose.
Our idea is simple: the world is one, and if you have talent – for engineering, business, art or anything else - you should have the maximum opportunity to develop it, regardless of where you were born or how connected your family is. Because your success can benefit everyone.
Unfortunately, information about opportunities for students does not circulate well globally.
From Graphic Ghana, Ghanaian Students to Access GlobalCampus Website, February 3, 2010:
The website, 'GlobalCampus', is an online system that would enable students to get connected to universities and organisations worldwide. It is focused on helping individuals to improve upon their talents in every field.
It will also enable universities and organisations to know more about students during admission processes, as well as connects the needs of universities to students across the world.
At a press conference in Accra to formally introduce the system in Ghana, Mr Maurizio de Franciscis, who is the founder and Chief Executive Office of GlobalCampus, explained that the GlobalCampus was a free online system that enabled students to get easy access and connection to universities and organisations worldwide for education and scholarships.

Nice Mission– empowering students (and their families) to reach out (apparently without costly ‘middlemen’) and connect with potential institutions of higher education. Looks like almost 500 colleges/universities are members according to the search page. The site lists over 300 “support services” like “Abroad Education Consultants” in India and the term “Agent” appears in the pull-down menu for support services…but the Mission seems to imply that this resource is an alternative to such costly practices:
“It is common for parents in developing countries to pay their savings to a broker to place their child at a foreign university. And for the university to pay again the same broker to receive the application in turn.”
I’m not sure why Agents are listed on this site…

Thanks for your feedback! We are a global site, therefore we included support services/agents as a way to give students access to many resources as some parts of the world include agents in the admissions process. However, due to our growth and subsequent feedback from both students and university staff who are recruiting on our site, we are removing this option in our new release.
Our overall goal is to give students free access. Since students are already receiving unbiased messages directly from university staff on GlobalCampus for free, there is also no longer a need for our agents section.

I give this group a lot of credit for trying to simplify international exchange and enrollment. This is a great first step toward improving the process. The presence of agents on the site, though, does make me wonder how different this is. I understand they have to have a business model, but their “about us” page does imply that they want to eliminate the brokers (as is pointed out above).
The “campustalk” section also needs a little more attention, it seems, from experts. But it’s a great idea to provide an online connection for students seeking opportunities and campus contacts and others in the know.
Nice to see some innovative approaches to international ed. enrollment. Worth watching…

Thanks Jim! See my above comment about agents. We’re different simply because students are already receiving unbiased information directly from university staff on our site, for free – no agent needed. University staff send messages directly to students about admissions information, scholarships, deadlines, admissions fairs abroad, and students respond with interest and apply to the schools they are interested in.
For the CampusTalk, experts and university staff are free to contribute. That portion will also be updated and more accessible for students in the newest feature release in October.

Hey! I really like the concept of this website and I actually did get to meet the founder of the website in a conference last year! It was amazing to hear about the opportunity here. So much so that I actually chose GlobalCampus for one of my university researches
. I am confused about one thing though. What is your business model? I dont see any ads on your website, and you dont seem to charge any fee to anyone who uploads there profile on the website… then how do you sustain yourself?
